Read our ethical policy

Instead of creating multiple collections each year, we offer a single annual collection which comprises of new ideas as well as reinvented and re-issued archive pieces. We do not wholesale as the waste and speculation is just too unsustainable, instead we have our main made to order service and work on exciting collaborations and very limited edition production runs of ready to wear accessories and simple garments that don’t depend on fit or size.

The store has been renovated using the best eco friendly, hand crafted and vintage products.

Monitored Supply Chain

Tammam works with “Fibre to finishing” supply chains wherever possible, creating fabrics and garments with producers we have worked with over many years. Never content to settle for a fabric that doesn’t quite work or a lower standard of ethics, many supply chains have been created like the one for this hand made lace – using Eri peace silk from North East India, traditional Ari work from Bangalore and British tulle.

Make Less

In 2012 the Tammam label renounced the traditional wholesale model - which is why our ready to wear is limited to samples and accessories now - and we opened Atelier Tammam - A London based sustainable fashion design studio - offering bespoke, made to measure and made to order services. If you want a Tammam garment, it will be a process and one you’re asked to invest in - it will be worth it, your Tammam clothing will fit better than anything in your wardrobe - we promise.

Our commitment extends to our creative collections, which are released annually (instead of seasonally), and always include around 50% reworked and recommissioned archive pieces. Sometimes we decide not to release a full collection and instead make just One Dress.

As we move forward the Tammam label is constantly looking at ways to incorporate ideas of degrowth and regenerative fashion into the way we create and do business.

Artisans

Tammam designs are made possible by the incredible talents of a wide range of experienced artisans from across India and Nepal, as well as in our own studio in London. We have met all the artisans we work with and ensure they are treated and paid fairly for the exceptional work they create for both fashion pieces and art projects.

Our prints are created in a village in Andhra Pradesh in Southern India, using non environmentally damaging natural dyes and traditional hand printing. We have had our own wooden blocks carved so our pints are unique.

Aari is a craft dating back to the 12th Century, this ancient embroidery technique uses a frame and small hook needle to create intricate patterns. We work with master embroiderers with years of experience to create incredible embellishments. This is Samula working his magic.

Hand looms are used to create many of our fabrics, this incredible traditional craft utilises man-power over machines, offering sustainable employment while also saving the environment. The beautiful cloths created have stories woven into every inch, textiles that are unique and beautiful and truly an art in themselves.

Embellishments are integral to many Tammam designs, unique hand embroideries and delicate appliqué's take hours of dedicated and precision work. Often we work with co-operatives who train women and offer them opportunities to escape disadvantage, Ammu and Marina from Jacobs well are just a couple we have helped to train and offered work.

Couture techniques are at the heart of what we do. From the embellishments to the construction. Every couture house has its own methods, we have developed our own techniques to encompass traditional craftsmanship and utilise the sustainable fabrics we have created.

Plant a Tree

We plant a tree for every dress we create.

In collaboration with Viva India, a charity based in rural Mangalore we plant a set of indigenous trees each year to help offset the carbon emissions emitted in the production and shipping of our pieces.

Sustainable fashion design in London, regenerative processes across the world. We know planting trees isn’t the solution, but we do need more trees and this is our way to help that happen.

Story - Plant a tree
